Dutch tourists return to Ohrid
Ohrid, 14 December 2010 (MIA) - Next summer Dutch tourists will resume the practice to spend their holiday in Macedonia's top resort - Ohrid. Under an agreement, signed by Ohrid hotel keepers and the Netherlands based Corendon Tour Operator, tourists from Benelux countries will be guests of nine hotels from May 6 to October 18.
"During the recent visit to Macedonia, representatives of the Dutch tour operator expressed belief that they will bring 7,300 guests in Ohrid and Struga and realize 51,000 overnight stays. Up to 50 percent of the arrangements would be paid in advance, chair of the Hotel Association of Macedonia (HOTAM) Donco Tanevski told reporters on Monday.
In the 80s, 90s of the last century Dutch tourists were on the top of the list of foreign visitors to Ohrid. However the trend declined after the dissolution of former Yugoslavia. The new agreement is a serious sign of their
returning to Ohrid, while the presence of prominent tour operator in Macedonia is seen as the best promotion of the country's tourist offer on the international market.
Dutch tourism experts have also the area around Schtip ( Штип ) being targeted, and have the tourist capacity, estimated as options for their needs Schtips
